These are outside the Bow Street magistrates court opposite the Royal Opera House. I was once told there were so many in one place for the use of press reporters dashing out of the police court with the hot news for their papers. No mobiles in those days ! Don’t know if that is true but it sounds plausible.
I still find it odd when back in England to see those potty little booths for public telephones…I much preferrred the red colossus which gave shelter from the weather and a bit of privacy.
I remember these well. I used to see them all the time, when I worked at Apex House.
